Who can be hypnotized?Anyone can be, but not everyone will be. Everyone has the ability to be hypnotized, it just depends on if it happens. In my shows, the majority of people I bring on stage get hypnotized. The ones that don't or are in a lesser state of trance, I kindly ask them to enjoy the show from the audience. Nothing is wrong with them, they might have just gotten distracted at some point. The next show, who knows, they might be the star!

How do you select volunteers? In my shows, I'm looking for the best of the best. Before I begin, I do what I call suggestibility exercises. These show me how reactive and imaginative members of the audience can be. I mentally mark those whom I believe would be good hypnotic subjects. When I ask for volunteers, I look for those who are the most excited and for those whom I saw would make good volunteers. Then I hand pick those who I want on my stage.

What does hypnosis feel like?It should be noted that everyone's experience may not be the same, but there are a few similarities. In lighter levels of hypnosis, a volunteer may feel as if they're just sitting in a chair. In moderate levels of hypnosis, a volunteer may feel a strong relaxation feeling. In deeper levels of hypnosis, it may feel as if the volunteer has completely melted into the floor in a state of pure relaxation. Regardless of depth, they are all in a state of trance. Overall, I'm told it mostly feels like lucid dreaming.

Can I get stuck in hypnosis?Getting stuck in hypnosis is impossible. Never in any of my shows has anyone ever not come out of hypnosis. It's very similar to active daydreaming. No one has ever been stuck in a daydream. Even if I were to put the volunteers in the deepest state I'm hypnotically capable of producing and then left, after a few minutes of them noticing nothing is happening they would begin to pop out of hypnosis on their own.

I don't want to accidentally tell my secrets...This is probably everyone's number one fear. I can tell you without a doubt that you will NEVER share your secrets while in a trance. Believe it or not, hypnosis makes you more aware of your surroundings and more in control of what's happening. A lot of times you just don't care what's happening because it feels so good. BUT you're always conscious of what you're saying so your secrets are safe with you.

I'm afraid I'll do something embarassing...As mentioned in an earlier question, all the control is in the volunteer. Hypnosis is not some magic control-all power. It is merely the power of suggestion. If a hypnotist were to suggest you do something you don't want to do, it goes against your morals or beliefs, or you're not comfortable with it, then you won't follow through with the suggestion. Hypnosis allows for the volunteer to be more in control and more aware of their surroundings at all times.

Will I remember what happens after the show? This is also something that differs from person to person. Some people go so deep that they don't remember anything as if just awoken and the dream fades instantly. Some people remember everything. In my shows, I always try to have the volunteers remember everything that has happened. If they don't remember, why would they ever want to come to another show? If for some reason you don't remember anything after the show, come find me and I can make sure you regain your memories from the show.

Can hypnosis actually help with habits good or bad?Absolutely! The number two questions I get are if hypnosis can help with smoking and weight loss. Hypnosis can help with these two and many more such as focus and concentration, stress and anxiety, sports performance, public speaking, nail biting, habit breaking/habit building, and many more! While I'm not trained *yet* in therapeutic hypnosis, I always give my volunteers a post-hypnotic suggestion after the show to get them on the right track of whatever goal they want to work on.

How can I learn hypnosis?Great question! You can reach out to me personally and I can get you the resoures I used when I taught myself. Regardless, my two big pieces of advice are 1). Go see a show, and 2). Go to trainings and conferences. Learning from other hypnotists and seeing them perform in real time can help you figure out the structure of a great show. And remember, YouTube is free. There are tons of videos out there showing how other hypnotists do it. That's how I got started, anyway.
